Sorry for the absence but I am back
Coming back. Last few weeks have been a bit intense with holidays here and a lot of family commitments so I wasn't able to dedicate enough time for the project I was trying to do for the Pizza Jam. I've made some progress however and I would like to continue working on the game until I have something basic working just like I did for the Picnic Season Jam.
You can expect something to play by Friday (April 25th).
Overall status of the game right now
- Right now I have the basic movement of the enemies (the patrol around and sabotage the production facility).
- The character movement looks good, it goes wherever the player clicks (had to adjust my logic that was based on colliders to be based on layers so other obstacles wouldn't prevent the player from going somewhere).
- Enemies patrol around, so they have a field of view. They enter into an alert state whenever they see the player. So they don't do any sabotaging while in the Alert state.
- Player has a Stealth level that diminishes every time an enemy spots him. The idea is that if it reaches zero, it is game over.
- Avocados have been integrated into the game. They have a few different hairs, some accessories and also their pants can have their color changed. This way they have an interesting visual variety.
What's Next
- Started to add a health bar to the present production treadmills. The idea is that the health goes down every time one of the Avocados sabotage. Merlin will eventually be able to "recover" the health by mending the treadmills.
- The idea here is to use some kind of items/resources to repair the treadmill
- These resources would be obtained from different mechanics, the first one will be "pick pocketing" the Avocados. Thinking about some kind of Comandos stealth (with some Assassin's Creed Inspiration).
- Each area should feel like an Action Side Scroller game, to do that, enemies should enter into the area and do one of the following before moving out of the area:
- Sabotage a few treadmills
- Spot the player
- Be pickpocketed
- Once all Avocados planned for that area completed their cycle, the next area is unlocked. For this version of the game we will have one single level with 3 areas.
