Traffic lights and Police Hats - ending the week ;D


Ending the first full week of work in the game there is a new version with some additions and several bugs fixed over the one from the last post. Still a long way to go but it is starting to take shape. From my last TO-DO list,

  1. Didn't work in the UI. Right now I am thinking about reworking it all but making it way smaller and more focused.
  2. Presents delivery system is working. You can collect and deliver presents. Still a lot of things to improve, especially regarding explaining the feature to the player. What to collect, where to deliver, etc...
  3. Added a 3rd infraction type, crossing the red light.
  4. Haven't done anything related to the Paywall SDK yet. Should probably do soon since the SDK is required for the submission
  5. Still a lot of balancing to do. Speed of the player, avocados, add more speed limit and no parking zone, etc... I will block a few days before the end of the jam to do only this part.

Besides the things I listed and haven't worked on yet, I came up with a new list to work in the next few days

  1. Add more animations for Merlin and for the Avocados. I've worked on some animations and got others from Mixamo that will make the game more interesting
  2. Create different behaviors for the Avocados
    1. Right now they just do a fixed patrol around the map in a constant speed
    2. Playing the game, even with the limited scope so far, is enough to know that we need more interesting behavior from the Avocados
    3. Thinking about a few different options
      1. Deliberately chasing the player, at least one avocado should do that
      2. Roaming around a certain area: infraction areas, presents, delivery spots, etc...
    4. Avocados could also have different roles in the game besides ticketing the player
      1. Some might move or hide presents
      2. Some might drop fake presents
      3. Damage delivery spots
      4. Block roads, etc...
      5. I might get some of the behaviors from the Avocados in the pic nic game jam prototype
  3. The game has a very cold start. It is hard for the player to make any infraction and, without Avocados, there is no challenge. I need to think about ways to improve that.
    1. I will probably do something related to the amount of presents the player collected and delivered. I will definetely start by adding a presents delivery counter so the player knows how many presents he delivered and can compare to others
